Bullying is a hot topic in schools today. It is an age-old problem hat is actually becoming much worse, sometimes with very severe consequences. Dr. Gaska will share and model his successful strategy to deal with bullies at this presentation. He will also share what you can do to help your gifted child deal with bullying, and what you, as a parent, should and should not do to address the problem. Dr. Craig Gaska has been in the education field for over 35 years. During his career, he was an elementary teacher, administrator, and is currently a part-time professor at Aurora University where he teaches in the Master's of Arts with Teaching Certification (MATC) program. Dr. Gaska holds a Bachelor's degree in elementary education, Master's and Educational Specialists degrees in Educational Administration, and a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction. Andy Mahoney, a counselor and one of the pioneers in the field of counseling the gifted, will present and discuss how parents can create a better "fit" to activate and support their child's gifted identity potential. The focus of his presentation will include issues related to achievement, learning, language processing, executive function, assessment challenges, and forming an identity that "fits" when a child is gifted and talented. In addition will be Paula Kosin, who is Marketing Manager and Career Consultant of Career Vision of Glen Ellyn. Her topic will be "Start Early-Start Smart: Why Early College Major & Career Planning is Essential for Gifted Students." This will be followed by breakout discussion groups on a variety of topics led by experienced facilitators. Become a Gifted Advocate We currently have an open position for a Family Outings Coordinator. This individual will plan occasional outings for families with gifted children to get together in an informal, social setting.
We are also looking for volunteers to attend school board meetings which take place on the first and third Monday evenings of the month at the District 203 Administrative Center, 203 W.
